Home Networks

You have your Starlink system installed and are achieving really impressive speeds from the router, the problem is when you start to move around your property and realise the restrictions and range when using a single WI-FI router provided by Starlink. The further you go away from the router the lower the speeds and put a wall in-between the router and your device then the WI-FI strength just drops , so what are the solutions for extending the coverage of WI-FI.

WI-FI repeaters can be used to push the signal further the drawbacks being separate SSID and your speed will have dropped by usually 50%.

Powerline adapters can be used which send the internet through the existing wiring of your property, the drawback being it will only work on the same ring main and again a separate SSID.

MESH systems are the latest which when used correctly can give a perfect solution to a whole house high speed WI-FI  coverage.

MESH NETWORKING

What is a Mesh Network?

Mesh networking is one of the newest forms of wireless internet. A mesh network is designed to blanket your entire home with WiFi coverage. A WiFi mesh network is a system composed of multiple mesh nodes (referred to as nodes, mesh extenders, or satellites) that work together as one large home WiFi system.

Mesh networks work by connecting numerous nodes / satellites to the same network by using one node as the router and all other nodes connecting to each other creating a seamless network . This works well but the only drawback is the loss of speed between each node usually about 50% so in a large property this can cause issues especially when streaming video or gaming etc.

 Hardwired Mesh Networks.

Most manufactures of Mesh network systems have now put in the facility of Backhaul which allows each node to be hardwired back over CAT5/CAT6 to a network switch that is connected to the primary node. The advantages of this are full speeds across the whole network ( 200 mbs at your Starlink then 200 mbs on all nodes ) after all that is what we are trying to achieve high speed access everywhere.
