Amazon Leo Hits 400 Mbps+: What It Means for UK Satellite Broadband

Starlink has had the UK sky to itself for years. That's about to change. Amazon Leo, the satellite broadband network formerly known as Project Kuiper, has published speeds of up to 400 Mbps on its Leo Pro terminal, and up to 1 Gbps on its enterprise Leo Ultra terminal. Here's what we actually know, and how to make sure you get every megabit.
The Verified Speeds: Nano, Pro and Ultra
Amazon has announced three customer terminals (source: About Amazon UK, aboutamazon.co.uk/news/company-news/what-is-amazon-leo-uk):
Leo Nano: a compact 7x7 inch (about 18x18cm) antenna, download speeds up to 100 Mbps.
Leo Pro: an 11x11 inch (about 28x28cm) antenna, download speeds up to 400 Mbps.
Leo Ultra: an enterprise-grade antenna, download speeds up to 1 Gbps and upload speeds up to 400 Mbps.
So the "400 Mbps" headline is the Leo Pro's top download speed, and the Leo Ultra goes well beyond it. Amazon calls the Ultra "the fastest commercial phased array antenna in production" (source: aboutamazon.com/news/amazon-leo/amazon-leo-satellite-internet-ultra-pro). These are "up to" figures, so real-world speeds will depend on coverage, network capacity and, importantly, how well your dish is installed.
When Is Amazon Leo Coming to the UK?
Ofcom approved Amazon Leo to provide satellite internet in the UK in February 2025, and Amazon says the UK will be among the first countries to get general service. An enterprise preview with select business customers began in November 2025, with wider rollout through 2026 as more satellites launch (source: About Amazon UK). Business press reports consumer service is targeted for mid-to-late 2026 in priority markets including the UK, with full availability possibly stretching into 2027 (source: Business Matters, bmmagazine.co.uk, July 2026). Why a Professional Install Matters
A 400 Mbps terminal will only deliver 400 Mbps if it can see the sky properly and the signal reaches your devices intact. As PLEO professional installers for both Starlink and Amazon Leo, we handle:
Mounting: secure wall, pole, chimney or roof mounts, built to cope with UK wind and weather.
Clear sky view: we survey your property to find the spot with the fewest obstructions from trees and buildings, because every blocked patch of sky costs you speed and reliability.
Cabling: neat, weatherproofed cable runs through walls and into your home or business, with no trailing wires through open windows.
Networking: mesh Wi-Fi, wired Ethernet points, outbuildings and offices, so the speed reaches every room, not just the one next to the router.
Whether you're a home on a slow line, a farm, or a business looking at the Leo Ultra, a properly installed system is the difference between "up to" and "actually getting it".
