Lincolnshire Starlink Pilot: Why Rural Farms Need Professional PLEO Installation
Friday 2 October 2026
Lincolnshire County Council is piloting Starlink for rural "not spot" farms without fibre on the County Farms Estate — around 16,500 acres across 149 holdings. The project was developed with the Greater Lincolnshire Forum for Agriculture and Horticulture. Reporting by Grace McGrory for BBC News (published 14 September 2026) quotes Paul Lock, executive councillor for the economy, on the need for practical satellite broadband that can work for farms and rural businesses where fibre is not available.
Once ground kit is in place, farmers still need to subscribe to Starlink for service. For reliability on working farms, professional mount choice, tidy cabling and a clear sky view matter as much as the dish itself — especially where outbuildings, trees or roof lines can create obstruction.
On the UK capacity side, Ofcom has granted Starlink two NGSO gateway earth station licences at Harlow, Essex and Mulberry Wharf, London, to improve capacity and resilience for UK households and businesses. See Ofcom's statement on the two non-geostationary gateway licences (published 20 July 2026).
