Starlink UK News: Starship V3 & Professional Installation

It has been a busy few weeks for Starlink in the UK. A record-setting Starship launch, a new Wi-Fi 7 router, a council farm pilot and fresh regulatory decisions all landed in September 2026. Here is what UK customers and PLEO (Professional Low Earth Orbit) installers need to know, based on the sources listed at the end.

Starship V3 launch: what it means for UK users

  • On 28 September 2026, Starship Flight 14 lifted off from Starbase, Texas, and deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites. SpaceX describes it as the first orbital Starship flight and the first to deliver a meaningful payload to orbit.

  • SpaceX says each V3 satellite is designed for about 1 Tbps of downlink capacity, roughly ten times a V2 Mini satellite. The satellites must still complete checkouts and raise their orbits. SpaceX says they could serve customers "as soon as a few weeks" after launch.

  • ISPreview reported that one Starship engine shut down early and nearly caused the final orbital burn to be abandoned, but the mission went ahead.

  • Uncertainty: SpaceX has not said when UK customers will notice extra capacity. Treat any timeline as unconfirmed.

Falcon 9 cadence: Teslarati reports six Falcon 9 launches from Vandenberg in September and only one from the East Coast. It counts the 108th Falcon 9 flight of 2026 on 26 September. Another Starlink mission (Starlink 15-25) was listed for 30 September, but Spaceflight Now marks it as "delayed from Sept. 30", so we can't confirm it flew. ISPreview puts the constellation at roughly 11,160 satellites.

UK pricing, plans and hardware

  • Residential plans are advertised at £40, £60 and £80 a month (the top tier is Residential Max). Third-party trackers checked these in September 2026. The two cheaper tiers are sold only in selected areas.

  • Roam is listed at £55 (100GB) or £100 (unlimited).

  • Hardware: Starlink's UK site advertises no upfront hardware cost in selected areas. Elsewhere, trackers quote kits from £299. Check your address-specific checkout, because terms have changed several times.

  • Router 4: Starlink has published details of a Wi-Fi 7 router with two Ethernet ports and water-resistant port covers. It is "available soon in select areas". We found no UK price or release date.

  • V5 dish: ISPreview reports it lacks Standby Mode and in-motion use. It was not yet sold in the UK in early August.

  • Heavy-use throttling: ISPreview reported some customers elsewhere being slowed after very high monthly use, and some were later reversed. ISPreview could not verify any UK cases. Starlink's fair-use policy remains vague.

Ofcom and regulatory items

  • On 20 July 2026, Ofcom decided to grant Starlink two gateway licences, at Harlow (Essex) and Mulberry Wharf (London), to improve the capacity and resilience of UK services.

  • Ofcom has also issued temporary E-band gateway licences for Morn Hill, Wherstead and Woodwalton, expiring 31 December 2028.

  • The Ministry of Defence told Reuters it has about 500 Starlink and 1,000 Starshield terminals. Its reported spend is about £16.5m on Starlink and £13m on Starshield.

Coverage and direct-to-cell

  • Lincolnshire pilot: on 11 September the county council announced a trial of Starlink on County Farms properties without fibre. The estate has 149 holdings. Tenants would pay for their own subscription. No budget or property count has been published.

  • O2 Satellite (background, launched 26 February 2026) uses Starlink Direct to Cell for messaging and app data where there is no mobile signal. It costs £3 a month, or is included with Ultimate plans. Virgin Media O2 says it took landmass coverage from 89% to 95%. It now supports Apple and Google Pixel phones as well as Samsung.

Why professional PLEO installation matters

A dish that "works on the lawn" is not the same as a dish that performs for years. A professional installer delivers:

  • Secure mounting: a pole, wall or roof mount rated for UK wind loads, so the dish holds its aim through winter storms and doesn't damage your roof.

  • Clear sky view: we survey for trees, buildings and future growth. Even partial obstructions cause dropouts, and V3 satellites won't fix a blocked view.

  • Weatherproof cabling: sealed, UV-resistant cable runs, tidy entry points and protected connectors, plus correctly placed routers such as the new Router 4, which is rated for indoor use.

  • Safety and compliance: working at height, safe cable routing and a neat finish that protects your property.

Starlink Tips reported that a September checkout showed Starlink-arranged installation at £74 on the cheaper tiers and included with Residential Max; terms vary by address. A specialist PLEO installer also handles awkward sites, long cable runs and business premises. Fees vary, so ask for a quote.
