Starlink in the UK – Weekly Update | Week Ending 4 April 2026
From Space Internet Solutions – Your Trusted Independent Satellite Internet Specialists
Welcome to our weekly roundup of the latest Starlink news, performance insights, pricing changes, and satellite internet developments affecting UK homes, farms, and businesses. At Space Internet Solutions, we stay ahead of the curve so we can deliver the best professional installations and advice across the country.
1. Starlink Price Promotion Extended – Great News for New UK Customers
Starlink has rolled out an attractive discount for residential users in selected areas: Residential service now starting at £25 per month for the first six months (normally £35). This offer runs until 30 April 2026 and applies to new customers.
• Residential 100Mbps plan: £25/mo for first 6 months, then £35
• Residential 200Mbps plan: Around £45/mo initially
• Residential Max (up to 400+Mbps): Around £65/mo initially (standard rate ~£75)
Hardware is often available with no upfront cost on qualifying plans (subject to address and commitment). This makes Starlink even more competitive for rural properties struggling with slow broadband. Prices can vary by location, so check your address directly on starlink.com.
2. Hardware Updates and Naming Simplification
SpaceX has simplified its product naming to reduce confusion:
• Standard 4 kit for entry-level plans
• Standard 4 X for higher-tier plans (often includes extras like a free Router Mini for Max users)
A new power supply unit with dual PoE ports has also been introduced for better reliability. These changes don’t affect performance but make ordering clearer for UK customers.
3. Performance and Network Insights
Real-world speeds in the UK continue to improve as more satellites join the constellation (over 10,000 in orbit). Typical residential performance:
• Downloads: 45–280+Mbps (majority over 100Mbps)
• Uploads: 15–35Mbps
• Latency: 25–60ms (excellent for video calls, streaming, and most online work)
The upcoming third-generation satellites (targeted for launch starting in the first half of 2026) promise even higher capacity and speeds, with long-term ambitions for gigabit-level performance in less congested areas.
A minor incident occurred recently with one Starlink satellite experiencing a fragmentation event on 29 March, but SpaceX confirmed it poses no risk to the ISS or other operations.
4. Regulatory Progress: New Gateway Earth Stations
Ofcom is consulting (open until 17 April 2026) on Starlink’s application for two new non-geostationary gateway earth stations in Harlow, Essex and Mulberry Wharf, London. These would boost network capacity and coverage across the UK using Ka-band frequencies. Ofcom’s preliminary view is to approve them, which is positive news for long-term reliability and performance.
5. Amazon Leo LA-05 Launch Today – Competition on the Horizon
Today (Saturday 4 April 2026) marks the target date for Amazon Leo LA-05 aboard a ULA Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral. This mission will deploy 29 production satellites — the heaviest payload ever for an Atlas V — thanks to improved dispenser technology.
While Amazon Leo is still in the build-out phase (limited preview/enterprise availability in the UK), rapid launches like this signal faster rollout of a second major LEO option. We’re monitoring closely and will provide honest comparisons once commercial service expands.
Why Professional Installation Matters More Than Ever
With promotional pricing, hardware changes, and growing competition, getting your Starlink setup right from day one is crucial for maximum performance.
Many customers start with the official Satworks route (SpaceX’s UK installation partner), but we often see them return for upgrades, better alignment, weatherproof permanent mounts, full-home WiFi mesh, or networking extensions.
At Space Internet Solutions we offer:
• Expert site surveys and precision dish alignment for strongest signal
• Tailored mounting solutions built for UK weather
• Complete end-to-end networking (wired, mesh, point-to-point)
• Honest advice on Starlink vs. future Amazon Leo options
• Thousands of successful installs since 2021 across the UK
